The University of Southampton’s Institute for Medical Innovation is one of the most ambitious medical fundraising campaigns in the UK . A £100 million project to bring the greatest minds in science, engineering and medicine together under one roof. Ultimately, a mission that only works if people feel moved enough to fund it.

That’s the brief they brought to us.

As a video production company working across the UK, we translate complex ideas into compelling film. But this project asked something different of us. We needed to create a fundraising film powerful enough to move people to give. No university promos or  standard corporate video. Instead, a documentary film putting real human stories at its centre. We featured patients whose lives these diseases have shaped, alongside the researchers dedicating their careers to defeating them.

We filmed across Southampton. First, we captured scientists in the lab. Then we turned our cameras on the people behind the statistics. The result is a brand film bridging two worlds: the precision of cutting-edge medical research and the raw, human reality of living with serious illness. Interviews that don’t feel like interviews. Emotion that isn’t manufactured.

This is what fundraising film production looks like when it’s done properly. Unpolished in the best sense. Grounded in real people and real stories, because the audience watching this film must feel compelled to invest in something that matters deeply.

The IMI’s campaign is live and the film is now doing its job.
